Whales (a Little Golden Book) by Jane Werner Watson

When my mother and step-father moved from Webster, NH to Kittery, Me back in 1967 they bought a beautiful house right on the water across from the backside of the Navy Yard. For some reason my mother became infatuated with whales and began to acquire books(mostly) and artwork featuring them. Their two cars had vanity plates with Scandinavian words for whale(HVALR) and calf(KALV) Im sure that most people upon seeing these had NO idea what they meant. Anyway, this book is selected to represent my moms books, some of which I read all or part of. Now that I think of it Im not sure this infatuation didnt begin in New Hampshire. At any rate it was a LONG time ago but Im reading Moby Dick now and I just remembered this. Ahhh - the past!

She was best known as an illustrator of Little Golden Books. Many of the picture books she illustrated have become classics of American children's literature. Her watercolor and colored pencil illustrations are known for their glowing depiction of babies, toddlers, and their parents in idyllic rural and domestic settings. Wilkin was born on March 30, in Rochester, New York , the third of four children. At age 2, Eloise moved with her family to New York City, but spent every summer with her siblings at a relative's home in western New York State. Memories forged there of family togetherness and the outdoors would influence her famous illustrations of nature, children, and family life.

The original edition of My Little Golden Book about God featured Caucasian children only, and Wilkin re- illustrated several pages to include children of other races in Books includeMy Alphabet. Isbn: x i would rate this book quality as a 9. Ready, Set, Grow! The eighth book in the series, The Poky Little Puppy, is the top- selling children' s book of all time.
