what is the book crash about

Crash by Jerry Spinelli

Crash John Coogan is the typical jock. At least what most of us have in mind as a jock. Crash has a wonderful life, until life deals him a hand that he could not have expected. When Crashs grandfather unexpectedly has a stroke, Crash unconsciously steps back and re-evaluates his life without even realizing hes doing it. Suddenly, his cool friends dont seem so cool anymore. Things that were once the most important in his life, become trivial. As a result of his grandfathers illness, Crash becomes more aware of the world around him and realizes there more important things in life than breaking records in football.

I can connect because Crash and his Grandfather were really close. My grandmother and I were really close too before she died. I felt really different without her. I changed a lot about myself and she was a role model to me like his grandfather was to him. This book can be related to many people and situations. Its a very common issue.

I would rate this book a 3.5 or 4 because I like who people can think about their personal experience. They can compare how they dealt with it and how Crash changed. Its very detailed and explains everything it need too.

Every since Penn Webb moved into the neighborhood before first grade, Crash has taken special pleasure in tormenting him. A peace-loving Quaker, Penn possesses all the characteristics Crash does not: kindness, gentleness, thoughtfulness, creativity, and empathy. Penn makes Crash uncomfortable with his friendly overtures. How could someone as tough and cool as Crash be friends with someone as dweebie as Penn? Unsure what to do about this weird kid, Crash tries his best to avoid him, until, he meets Mike Deluca.

Crash Coogan doesn't like his new neighbor. Crash is the toughest 6-year-old in town, and the last thing he needs is some new kid being all nice to him for no reason. Penn Webb said new kid is from a happy family of "Flickertails," by which he means he and his parents are from North Dakota. He's hard not to like, but Crash manages. Penn and his folks are always saying stuff about being Flickertails because they're weirdos.

Jerry Spinelli's "Crash" novel takes place over the course of John "Crash" Coogan's seventh grade year with brief glimpses of his life when he was younger. During his seventh grade year, John is forced to confront his changing stances on violence, aggression, and bullying. In particular, John has to think about who he really is and whether his true thoughts, feelings, and actions match up with the ultra-competitive and physically dominant jock "Crash Man" persona that was given to him when he was just a little boy.
