Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters by Erik BurnhamDonatello builds a stargate and accidentally teleports himself and the other Turtles to a different New York – the Ghostbusters’ New York! The two franchises proceed to putz around for as long as they need to and then it ends.
I don’t dislike either the Turtles or the Ghostbusters but this comic was dreadful, mostly because of writers Erik Burnham and Tom Waltz’s humdrum script. The opening scene from centuries ago had no bearing on the story whatsoever. The villain, a bullgod or something, argues with his sister over another stargate, then Krang appears with a tube, and the bullgod is thrown into the stargate. We never hear from the sister or Krang again or find out the relevance of their squabble or the tube. Rubbish storytelling!
The book is structured between crap fight scenes, as the Turtles/Ghostbusters battle the bullgod over and over without doing anything, and beyond boring exposition scenes where the characters stand around talking about how to the fix the stargate to send the Turtles back to their New York. Both types of scene are utterly tedious to read.
And the bullgod’s motivation for being a villain? He wants to rule the world. And every other world. Because that’s what bad guys want. I can’t even…
Maybe if you’re a die-hard fan (aka the cheapest of dates!) who only wants to see Mikey ride shotgun in Ecto-1 or wear the brown onesie, or see Donnie using a proton pack, you’ll get something out of this. Otherwise this is like a comics version of the dumbest kid’s cartoon, full of underwritten scenes, one-dimensional characters and a non-existent plot. The worst! Dont cross the streams? Dont cross the franchises!
