We also have 33 video consultations of candidates tackling the scenarios along with our expert feedback on how the candidate performed. Practice makes perfect. Its great going on a day course but afterwards your skills start to atrophy. Its like attending the ALS course, for the first few days afterwards you will feel very confident in dealing with very sick patients but soon afterwards your skills will begin to wane. All deaneries use the same national format for Stage 3 Assessments. This consists of a 4 part assessment. These include:. The consultations last 10 minutes each including reading time, and the written exercise lasts 30 minutes. All 4 parts are important in determining your suitability for training and overall rank. The selection centre is designed to assess the following competences throughout the different assessments:.
Recruitment into GP Specialty Training has traditionally been highly competitive and this year is no exception. Candidates must pass through a tough 3 stage assessment process and while most can get through the Stage 2 — MMT relatively easy it is always the Stage 3 assessment that is most difficult. Applicants who have passed Stage 2 will be invited to a Selection Centre and asked to participate in a series of exercises as follows:. Based on the results of these exercises candidates will succeed or fail in their attempt to get a Training position. They take the view that their clinical skills are good enough to see them through and this attitude can very often lead to failure. To practice effectively, a GP requires a variety of skills, some clinical of course but others relating to the ability to conduct a consultation with a patient in an effective and empathetic manner. Professional integrity is also being tested usually within the written exercises and the ability to work with others effectively.
